As wildfires continue to ravage Los Angeles, historic Black neighborhoods are experiencing catastrophic damage. In Altadena, one of the city’s historic Black communities, a 66-year-old man tragically died while attempting to save his family home of 55 years.

Amongst the thousands of acres set aflame by the Los Angeles wildfires, Altadena, a historically Black neighborhood, is left incinerated.

The working-class neighborhood of Altadena was hit especially hard by a devastating wildfire, with more than 7,000 structures lost. But people rallied to help each other. NBC News' Gadi Schwartz reports.

Hundreds of evacuees from the devastating Eaton fire gathered in hallways of the Pasadena Convention Center on Wednesday, Jan. 8, amid gray, smoky skies, while ash rained down outside of the glass doors.
