Whittingham has put Underwood on notice after his shaky Week 1 performance. Underwood finished 12-of-22 for 170 yards, one touchdown and one interception, and he also led the Wolverines on the ground with nine carries for 47 yards and a rushing score.

There is a thin line between backing your starting quarterback and ignoring what everyone on the field sees. Michigan found itself walking that line after barely scraping past Western Michigan 13-12.

Urban Meyer says Michigan coach Kyle Whittingham believes in Bryce Underwood but that the Wolverines quarterback has struggled because he is physically "underdeveloped."
