The best friend of accused Minnesota assassin Vance Boelter revealed haunting text messages he received shortly after the assassination of Democratic House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband. Authorities believe the 57-year-old suspect disguised himself as a police officer wearing a latex mask to commit the violent acts.

Suspected assassin Vance Boelter fronted a security firm his best friend said never existed and experienced “struggles” after returning from a three-year trip to Africa months before he allegedly turned his gun on a pair of Minnesota lawmakers and their spouses.

David Carlson has known Vance Boelter for more than 40 years and was roommates with him at a north Minneapolis home that Boelter was at part-time. Carlson was shocked by Saturday's news that Boelter is the suspect in the shooting of two state lawmakers and their spouses.

Authorities asked for the public’s help in finding Vance Boelter, 57, and South Dakota officials are seeking a ‘person of interest’ who may be traveling with him.

The suspect, Vance Boelter, was appointed more than once to the Workforce Development Board, where he served with State Senator John A. Hoffman, who was shot on Saturday.
