Formula One season onwards, Johnny Herbert will no longer be an FIA steward during Grand Prix weekends. The decision puts an end to the increasingly loud calls for the removal of Herbert from his voluntary position because of possible conflicts of interest.

The Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) seems to be in the middle of a legislative overhaul for the 2025 season, as the governing body of motorsports changes its sporting code yet again — and free speech is on the chopping block next, according to new reports.

The FIA has issued new guidelines that could see F1 drivers face hefty fines, points deductions, and a one-month suspension or more for repeated misconduct violations.

Since becoming a FIA steward, there has been a lot of controversy surrounding Johnny Herbert. Decisions that have been made by the former F1 driver have come under criticism, but the reason for his departure from the governing body is because of his interviews conducted with betting companies.

Formula 1 drivers could face points deductions or bans if they repeatedly swear or criticize the sport's governing body under revised misconduct guidelines issued by the FIA.

Johnny Herbert, now a former FIA race steward, issued his final warning to Max Verstappen just days before his removal as he told the F1 World Champion that rivals would “rebel” and “push back” against his antics.
