Iceland's Reykjanes Peninsula experienced another volcanic eruption on November 20, 2024, affecting major transport routes and nearing the popular Blue Lagoon spa. Prompt evacuations were executed as lava flows were captured in stunning satellite imagery.

A NASA satellite image captures Iceland's latest volcanic eruption, showing lava flowing near the Blue Lagoon. The eruption, which has not affected flights, resulted in the evacuation of around 3,800 residents and is similar to past powerful eruptions in the region.

On average, Iceland experiences a volcanic eruption every five years, though since 2021 the average has been closer to once a year.
