Besieged automotive giant Nissan has suffered yet another blow, with news it is set to axe a number of showrooms under its luxury division – Infiniti.

Both Nissan and its luxury arm, Infiniti, have seen better days. As sales figures continue to disappoint, Nissan is now allowing some Infiniti dealers to relocate into Nissan stores, according to a report by Automotive News.

Even if a joint location is approved, it has to deliver an Infiniti-like experience. This is easier said than done as the company reportedly mandates a separate entrance, showroom, and lounge. Co-branded dealers also reportedly need a unique sales and service team, although some behind the scenes staff can apparently be shared.

Infiniti dealers are struggling to stay afloat, prompting a controversial co-location strategy with Nissan dealerships.

UNDATED (WKRC) - Luxury auto brand Infiniti will close a number of showrooms as Nissan continues to struggle. According to The New York Post, Infiniti, Nissan's luxury division, will close several stand-alone showrooms and merge with existing Nissan dealerships.

To prevent a mass exodus of dealers, Infiniti has proposed a creative solution: allowing some dealerships to co-locate with Nissan stores.
