The NFL’s annual league meetings wrapped up Wednesday in Palm Beach, Fla., and with their conclusion came a number of rule changes. As the league year continues into 2025, here are some of the new things that owners agreed upon to alter — or keep the same — for the upcoming season.

NFL owners voted to move touchbacks on kicks from the 30 to the 35 and also approved changes to the overtime rule and expanded replay assist.

With the upcoming NFL season drawing near, team owners approved new rules for 2025, but tabled a vote to ban the “tush push” play that helped the Philadelphia Eagles win one Super Bowl and reach another.

The one-year trial version of the dynamic kickoff in the NFL led to an uptick in the return rate that wasn't quite as much as the league had hoped.

The future of the tush push has been pushed until next month, but team owners approved modifying the kickoff rule, expanding replay assist and revising overtime rules among other changes.

"Ben Johnson took total advantage of the four-down game-management approach because he's a really, really good play caller, an evil genius, really," an NFL executive said in a Thursday piece by Mike Sando of The Athletic. "Losing him would almost be like the Rams losing Sean McVay."
