Hurricane Lowell left parts of Hawaii with widespread power outages, flooding, road closures and dangerous surf.

Hurricane Lowell was expected to cause major rains across Hawaii on Tuesday as its core was projected to pass over or near the sparsely populated island of Niihau.

Dangerous and damaging waves are expected from Lowell along the south shores of all islands. The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation (HDOT) closed Lihue Airport at 2:30 p.m. Monday, due to the impending impacts of Hurricane Lowell.
