Finnish vendor Nokia has completed the €2.19 billion ($2.3bn) acquisition of networking firm Infinera. The San Jose, California-based company is now part of Nokia. Nokia’s plans to acquire Infinera surfaced last June, and Infinera said last week it was close to completion.

Nokia said on Friday that the acquisition will help it serve telecom operators, webscalers, and enterprises, unlocking new opportunities of the artificial intelligence (AI) era.

The EU Commission on Wednesday said it had unconditionally approved the $2.3 billion acquisition of U.S. optical semiconductors and networking equipment maker Infinera by Nokia. The commission said the takeover raised no concerns,

The Commission concluded that the combined market share in the supply of optical transport equipment would remain moderate.
