As more than a billion Catholics around the world await the election of a new pope, all eyes will be on the Sistine Chapel, where 133 cardinals will begin the secretive process known as a conclave.

The great wooden doors to the Sistine Chapel have shut behind the 133 red-robed cardinals tasked with electing a successor to Pope Francis. With the Latin invocation, “Extra omnes,” or ‘Everybody out!

A total of 133 eligible cardinals left the Pauline Chapel in a processional headed toward the Sistine Chapel.
