Australia's Foreign Minister Penny Wong says her government has warned airlines flying between Australian airports and New Zealand to beware of Chinese warships conducting a live-fire exercise in the Tasman Sea.

The three People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) ships -- a Renhai-class cruiser, a frigate and a tanker -- have been followed by Australian and New Zealand forces as they transit the seas off Australia's east coast in recent days.
