Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday suffered another setback ahead of the assembly elections as MLA Abdul Rehman resigned from party's primary membership. Rehman, an MLA from Seelampur, resigned saying that the party ignored the rights of Muslims, and hours later joined Congress.

Aam Aadmi Party MLA Abdul Rehman resigned from the party and joined Congress, citing AAP's neglect of Muslim rights. Rehman, who held the Seelampur seat, criticized Kejriwal's leadership before joining Congress after being denied renomination.

The first exit came in the form of Seelampur MLA Abdul Rehman, who left the party and joined Congress over a month after resigning as the head of AAP's minority wing. The AAP had fielded Chaudhry Zubair Ahmad from Seelampur in its first candidate list, who joined the party along with his wife leaving Congress in October this year.

Abdul Rehman, AAP's Seelampur MLA, alleged that the party led by Arvind Kejriwal ignored Muslims rights in its quest for power.

Seelampur MLA Abdul Rehman wrote to Kejriwal saying his resignation from the Aam Aadmi Party was a “moral duty”.
