The end of Temporary Protected Status would have kept thousands of Venezuelan immigrants from working in Florida, where jobs outnumber job seekers.
The Trump administration has fired back at a federal judge in San Francisco who stopped it from revoking deportation protections this month for hundreds of thousands of Venezuelans in Florida and other states, saying the judge has no authority to block the decision and that it should be addressed on an emergency basis by a higher appeals court.
"The extension (of TPS) that goes until October 2026 is now again in place," said Adelys Ferro, director of the Venezuelan American Caucus and a member of the TPS National Alliance, which sued the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in February.
Chen, who was appointed to the bench by President Barack Obama, a Democrat, said his order in the lawsuit brought by the National TPS Alliance applies nationally. Noem had also announced the end of TPS for an estimated 250,000 additional Venezuelans in September.
