The system that started the day as Invest 97L has become Tropical Storm Edouard, the fifth named storm of the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season, according to the 8 p.m. EDT update from the National Hurricane Center.

A tropical storm warning has been issued for Kauai and Niihau as Hurricane Lowell, a Category 3 cyclone, continues on a path to move just west of the islands.
Lowell is forecast to make its closest approach late Monday night, passing just west of Kauai’s coastal waters, likely as a Category 2 or 3 hurricane. A Tropical Storm Watch is currently active for both Kauai and Niihau.
In Texas’ hard-hit Hardin County, officials said flooding, downed trees and powerlines, debris, and power outages were still creating hazardous conditions.
