According to the national activist group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, the U.S. Department of Agriculture has cited Lagoon multiple times for zoo conditions over a 15-year span.

Lagoon announced it is phasing out the zoo featured in its Wild Kingdom train ride. A public records requests showed that six big cats have already been relocated to a Colorado sanctuary.

Lagoon has moved their big cats out of the amusement park's zoo and plans to rehome the rest of the animals later this year.

A 3-year-old giraffe snuck out of her enclosure at an Arizona zoo and was found snacking on a nearby tree, officials said. Msituni was found just before 9 a.m. March 5, the Reid Park Zoo said in a Facebook post. She is an adult reticulated giraffe that joined the Tucson zoo last month, zoo officials said in a Feb. 19 news release.

An Arizona zoo opened late due to a 3-year-old giraffe escaping from her enclosure to make a meal out of a nearby tree.

The 3-year-old, 12-foot-tall Msituni jumped out of her enclosure 10 minutes prior to the zoo opening for the day on March 5, 2025.
