Flash flood, thunderstorm alerts in effect for California with heavy rain expected to last days
More than 41 million Americans across California, Nevada and Arizona are under flood watches on Wednesday amid a rare, high risk for excessive rainfall and flooding.
Freeway through Grapevine is the focus of a flood watch issued at 1:38 p.m. on Tuesday by the National Weather Service. The watch is valid from Wednesday 10 p.m. until Thursday Jan. 1, at 10 p.m.
Heavy rainfall doused the Los Angeles area on Christmas Eve, forcing evacuations and leaving some residents in need of rescue as the water rose.
Los Angeles County is the focus of a flood watch released at 11:26 a.m. on Tuesday by the National Weather Service. The watch is valid from Wednesday 10 p.m. until Thursday Jan. 1, at 10 p.m.
Officials in Los Angeles and surrounding counties warned that the giant holiday storm could trigger "widespread flash flooding."
