Nana Patekar, an Indian actor who became a star playing the Everyman but also was a figure in India’s fleeting #MeToo reckoning, died on Thursday in the state of Goa.

Despite fame and wealth, Nana Patekar preferred a simple life shaped by childhood poverty, farming, modest living and charitable work.

Scenes from films including ‘Krantiveer’, ‘Parinda’ and ‘Ab Tak Chhappan’ have been widely reposted and incorporated into tribute videos.
