Amid a flurry of formal WNBA expansion bids this week, the owners of the Philadelphia 76ers are reportedly throwing their hats in the ring. Harris Blitzer Sports and Entertainment has formally submitted a bid for a WNBA expansion team,

After years of talk but little action, the 76ers told The Inquirer on Friday that they’ve made an official bid to bring a WNBA team to town. The bid has been expected ever since the Sixers and Comcast Spectacor struck a deal to abandon the team’s controversial plans to build an arena on Market Street in Center City and instead jointly build and operate a new venue in the sports complex.

Tilman Fertitta, the owner of the Houston Rockets, has also submitted a bid to the WNBA for an expansion team, a spokesperson for the Rockets confirmed to The Athletic. The prospective team would play its games at the Toyota Center, where the Rockets play.
