Officers shot the man behind the Best Buy in the Belmar Shopping District after he displayed a gun, Lakewood Police said.

Police are investigating a shooting involving officers near the Belmar Shopping Center that left one person dead.

The suspect who was shot and killed by Lakewood police officers who responded to a trespassing call Monday morning has been identified.

A 40-year-old man has been identified as the suspect shot and killed by police at a Lakewood shopping center earlier this week.

Two officers responded to a call from security guards around 3:30 a.m. Monday to West Alaska Drive and South Vance Street. A Lakewood police spokesman says the still-unidentified man pointed a gun at officers and they shot him.
