Shares of Marks & Spencer Group PLC MKS rallied 2.84% to £3.55 Wednesday, on what proved to be an all-around dismal trading session for the stock market, with the FTSE 100 Index UKX falling 0.21% to 8,
The retailer, which this week wrote to at least 18m customers to admit hackers had stolen personal data, has lost millions of pounds in sales.
Customers who have M&S paper vouchers are being urged to contact M& customer service while those who have vouchers via their M&S credit card rewards can get them converted to digital rewards in the M&S app or at marksandspencer.com.
But it is clear from the disruption and reputation damage that has been inflected on Marks – and the attempted hacks on fellow retailers, the Co-op and Harrods, that businesses up and down the country are going to have to bolster their defences and take cyber disaster management far more seriously - at the highest level.
Resurgent sales have propelled Marks and Spencer Group (LSE:MKS) shares sharply higher since October 2022. Before the recent cyberattack (more on this later), they hit their most expensive for almost a decade at 417.
