It was two years ago that best friends and rivaling competitors Ilya Sorokin and Igor Shesterkin competed in the NHL All-Star Skills competition together. Shesterkin joked that he should have been the one to shoot pucks down the ice at the opposing net instead of Sorokin.

New York Islanders goaltender Ilya Sorokin got into the NHL history books with his first career goal, and he remembered about fellow countryman and New York Rangers goalie Igor Shesterkin.

Sorokin stopped 23 shots. He made a save right before Steven Stamkos’ errant pass went into Nashville’s empty net with 12 seconds left.
