Cincinnati Bengals receiver Tee Higgins is the best player available in free agency. But he isn't the top-ranked player on my annual NFL free-agent Top 100 list. That's because of position value, which is why Minnesota Vikings quarterback Sam Darnold tops my list.

Analysts at Spotrac projected Darnold’s fair market value in 2025 to be $40,123,661 per year. Based on age, experience, and statistics of comparable quarterbacks, Darnold could be offered a four-year contract worth $160,494,644.

Because, according to what one NFL agent tells La Canfora, offering teams would have to wait on Minnesota to decide whether or not to match their offer sheet. That’s a process that Kwesi and KOC can slow play for an entire week, which would leave that team in limbo while other free agent quarterbacks go off the board.
