The San Francisco 49ers are officially pressing the reset button for their defensive line. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the Niners are releasing veteran defensive tackle Maliek Collins. San Francisco traded a 2024 seventh-round pick for Collins last offseason.

The San Francisco 49ers began their offseason defensive-line remodeling Sunday with a release. The 49ers parted with defensive tackle Maliek Collins, 29, who started all 17 games last season, when the team’s mushy middle contributed to a 6-11 record.

Maliek Collins was acquired via trade by the 49ers last offseason. After only one season in San Francisco, though, the veteran defensive tackle will be on the move this spring.
