WASHINGTON (AP) — U.S. Agency for International Development workers, some in tears, carted away belongings from a final visit to their now-closed headquarters Thursday as the Trump administration’s rapid-fire dismantling of the congressionally authorized agency moved into its final stages.
The cuts detailed by the administration would leave few surviving USAID projects for advocates to try to save in ongoing court battles.
Foreign assistance provided by the US Agency for International Development (USAID) is under heavy scrutiny as President Donald Trump seeks to slash the federal budget. Controversial Nigerian journalist David Hundeyin alleged on social media that the aid agency’s annual budget exceeded those of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and Department of State (DoS) combined.
