Gov. Janet Mills released two statements addressing President Donald Trump's threat to withhold federal funding, but neither mentioned federal taxes.

The White House defended the Maine lawmaker who made a controversial Facebook post about a trans athlete Wednesday and once again criticized Maine’s policies.

The U.S. Senate voted Monday on the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act, a federal ban on transgender women from participating in school and college athletic programs.

The federal civil rights law, which was passed in 1972, ensures a right to equal treatment in educational spaces.

"It's been 20 years that we've been protecting on the basis of gender identity. It's not new. It's not radical," says Kit Thomson Crossman, executive director of the Maine Human Rights Commission.
