Michigan State defeated the Fighting Irish, 5-2, earning the game one victory. The Spartans had five different goal scorers, including Maxim Strbak, Isaac Howard, David Gucciardi, Matt Basgall and Karsen Dorwart. Trey Augustine made 22 saves on 24 shots.

Michigan State holds the tiebreaker over Minnesota based on taking seven of 12 points against the Gophers this season and would therefore be the overall No. 1 seed in the Big Ten Tournament. The Spartans led 2-0 after the first period on goals by David Gucciardi and Matt Basgall.
