Prada's CEO indicated on Tuesday the Italian fashion group was at least looking at potential mergers and acquisitions following reports linking it with possible deals for fellow luxury brands Versace and Jimmy Choo.

An acquisition of Versace by Italian luxury group Prada would create a company with a broader base that is more resistant to business cycles, but reviving the targeted brand could take years and hit short-term profits.

Italian luxury fashion house Prada reported a bumper set of results for 2024, defying analysts' expectations and the crisis in luxury markets. This comes on the heels of rumours that it is in talks to purchase Versace.

"Relaunching a brand is difficult, in the early 2000s we bought Jil Sander and Helmut Lang and we made strategic mistakes," Chairman Bertelli, who controls Prada along with his wife Miuccia Prada, said in a interview with La Repubblica daily.

As Miu Miu surpasses the 1 billion-euro mark, the focus remains on that brand and Prada, but group CEO Andrea Guerra said when dossiers "come around you look at them."

A report said Prada and Capri Holdings had agreed a 1.5 billion euro price tag for Versace, sending stock in both companies higher.
