ATLANTA — The Phillies’ hopes of catching the Braves in the divisional race already were on life support after Friday night’s 6-5 extra-innings loss to Atlanta. But they were dealt another serious blow when Jesús Luzardo was scratched from his scheduled start on Saturday because of shoulder stiffness.
In doing so he also set a new Braves record. "LHP Martín Pérez has pitched to a 0.28 ERA across his last six home starts, the lowest mark by a Brave in such a span since earned runs became official in 1912," the Braves wrote on X.
Whatever spark the Braves offense created against the Rays, the club better hope it keeps smoldering during another pivotal weekend.
