The first human to have ever been infected with H5N5 strain of bird flu has died, Washington state health officials confirmed late Friday.

A Washington resident died of complications from an infection with a bird flu strain never before reported in humans, the state Department of Health said on Friday.

The man, an older adult with underlying health conditions, was being treated for a type of bird flu called H5N5.
