The shelter-in-place orders at Pepperdine University were reinstated Tuesday afternoon as the Franklin Fire continued to threaten the campus community. At 4:55 p.m. the university posted on X that students and residents were required to shelter in place.

As the Franklin Fire burns areas in and around Malibu, evacuation orders sent thousands scrambling. But for students and staff at Pepperdine University, where the flames and smoke were clearly visible,

The Franklin Fire has prompted mandatory evacuations along a large swath of the California coast and destroyed an unknown number of homes. The cause is not yet known.
