Armed gangs launched a fresh attack on Haiti's capital before dawn on Tuesday, killing residents in the Delmas 30 neighborhood and causing more residents to flee as gangs continue to operate unchecked in the Caribbean nation.

Gangs have launched a new attack on Haiti’s capital and killed an unknown number of civilians in what used to be a peaceful neighborhood.

The attacks in the Delmas 30 neighborhood of Port-au-Prince sent Haitians running into the streets carrying bed frames and pushing wheelbarrows on Tuesday,.

Haitian police officers Monday demanded better protection and treatment a day after gunmen killed a Kenyan police officer who was part of a U.N.-backed mission tasked with fighting gangs in the troubled Caribbean country.

The officer is the first casualty suffered by the Kenyan-led Multinational Security Support mission.

The officer’s death appeared to be the first among the Kenyan forces that were sent to Haiti last year as part of an international effort to subdue gang violence.
