Forecasters say Tropical Storm Norbert has formed in the Pacific Ocean and isn't threatening land. The Miami-based National Hurricane Center says on Thursday the storm was about 685 miles southwest of the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula of Mexico.

Fierce winds downed trees and caused widespread power outages on the island of Kauai, home to 73,000 residents.

Lowell never officially made landfall, but its widespread impacts made it one of Hawaii's most consequential tropical cyclones in decades.

“That individual was a homeless individual living in a tent, and a tree fell on him,” Gov. Josh Green said

Fox Weather storm specialist Mike Seidel was nearly knocked over by a powerful ocean wave while covering Hurricane Lowell in Hawaii.

Hurricane Lowell track has nudged east, raising chances for near hurricane-force gusts on Kauai, as well as heavy rain across the Hawaiian Islands.
