A Category 2 hurricane raked Hawaii’s westernmost inhabited islands overnight, sending sustained winds of 110 mph across Niihau and pushing a hurricane warning over all of Kauai County. Lowell’s center tracked just west of Niihau as the storm closed the final stretch of open ocean between it and the island chain,

Hurricane Lowell’s intense winds and storm surge that battered Hawaii’s western islands this week are suspected in the deaths of at least two people.

The debris was cleared by state transportation crews who seemed to be working their way around the island and clearing out what they could.
