OpenAI aims to solve its messy naming problem—and usher in an era of what Sam Altman calls ‘software on demand.’

OpenAI didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment. And while it’s unclear if OpenAI used GPT-5 to actually make the charts, it’s still not a great look for the company on its big launch day — especially when it is touting the “significant advances in reducing hallucinations” with its new model.

GPT-5 is rolling out today as the new default model for signed-in ChatGPT users, replacing GPT-4o. It auto-switches between reasoning and non-reasoning modes, while paid users can manually enable deeper reasoning.
