Scientists and their supporters from around Philadelphia crowded outside City Hall Friday to decry President Donald Trump’s proposed cuts to research funding and attacks on diversity, equity, and inclusion policies at a rally organized in coordination with dozens of other events around the country.

Researchers, advocates and community leaders gathered in Center City on Friday for the Stand Up for Science March, to push their call to restore federal funding for biomedical research.

Hundreds gathered at the Oregon State Capitol on Friday as part of a nationwide "Stand Up for Science" rally advocating for federal support of research and scientists. Scientists, students, advocates and community members held signs and led chants protesting recent mass layoffs and funding cuts at the direction of the Trump administration.

The Stand Up for Science rallies are a response to the Trump administration’s actions, which have been seen as a threat to scientific progress.
