Videos and photographs of Wednesday raids across the country show people clashing with, running from, and being arrested by immigration agents.

Most of the evening was peaceful, with a few protesters turning to vandalism in a tight area -- actions that brought police to move in closer and ultimately work to disperse the crowd.

Hundreds of protesters gathered outside the San Francisco Immigration Court at 100 Montgomery Street to oppose President Donald Trump 's aggressive deportation plans after Immigration and Customs Enforcement ( ICE) arrested multiple immigrants at the downtown courtroom, NBC Bay Area first reported.

Dozens of mayors from across the Los Angeles region banded together to demand that the Trump administration stop the stepped-up immigration raids that have spread fear across their cities and sparked protests across the U.

Demonstrations against immigration raids began in Los Angeles last week and have spread across the country, including to Texas. More are planned this weekend.

HOW WE GOT HERE: The protests erupted after Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers on Friday carried out raids in three locations across L.A., where dozens of people were taken into custody. Newsom called the raids “chaotic federal sweeps” that aimed to fill an “arbitrary arrest quota.”
