Hawaii is under a state of emergency as powerful Hurricane Lowell takes aim at the state, with impacts starting Monday.

Hurricane Lowell, a massive Category 4 cyclone, remains on a course that forecasters believe will bring it close to Niihau and Kauai by Monday, according to the Central Pacific Hurricane Center.

Hawaiʻi County announced early Saturday afternoon that several county park and recreation facilities are closed because of high surf conditions.
