Earlier Saturday, two other hostages — Tal Shoham, 40, and Avera Mengistu, 38 — were freed. Arriving in Israel, both were taken to medical centers for examination. Mengistu, an Ethiopian-Israeli, entered Gaza on his own in 2014. His family told Israeli media he has struggled with mental health issues.

Hamas is preparing to release a total of six living hostages in two separate locations of the Gaza Strip -- the city of Rafah and the Nuseirat refugee camp.

In addition to Sayed and Mengistu, Hamas also held the bodies of two Israeli soldiers killed in the 2014 Gaza war. One, Oron Shaul, was recovered by Israeli troops in Gaza last month, while the other, Hadar Goldin, is still in the hands of Hamas.
