Senate Republicans took a major step to advance President Donald Trump’s sweeping agenda early Friday morning, voting to adopt a budget blueprint that sets up a clash with House Republicans, who have put forward a competing plan.

The Senate, working into the morning hours Friday, passed the first of two budget bills, focusing on border security, immigration and tax breaks.

The Senate will proceed with its own plan, Majority Leader John Thune said, continuing to cast doubt on the House's ability to pass Trump's agenda in one big bill.
