SportsNet New York, the Mets’ local television partner, will launch a subscription streaming service on Tuesday that allows cord-cutting fans to watch games without paying for a TV bundle. The move is part of a growing trend that Major League Baseball hopes will help combat a longstanding irritant for fans: blackouts.

SNY announced on Tuesday a new Direct-To-Consumer (DTC) streaming service for fans to purchase a subscription to SNY’s award-winning programming lineup, including New York Mets broadcasts. This new service is being launched in partnership with Major League Baseball and its industry-leading streaming capabilities,

While two-thirds of MLB teams have streaming products that do not require a traditional pay TV subscription, SNY is the first regional sports network to offer such a service in partnership with MLB. Fans will have access to in-game enhancements such as statistics and replays through the MLB app. SNY’s app will be phased out in late March.

For years, Mets fans could only watch their team's locally-broadcast games on cable TV. That changed with an SNY announcement on Tuesday.

Those in the Mets’ market, which includes New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and parts of Pennsylvania, can subscribe for $24.99 per month, $124.99 per season or $149.99 per year. Those in the market who currently get SNY through a TV subscription will be able to access games via the MLB app at no extra cost.
