The Canadian government has intervened in the Air Canada strike, forcing both parties to the bargaining table as hundreds of flights were cancelled this weekend.

The strike, which began on Saturday morning, stranded more than 100,000 travelers around the world during the peak summer travel season.

The union defied a government order to return to work. The airline said it would delay plans to restart operations from Sunday until Monday evening.
