The Mets aren’t in any rush to call Alvarez up because his back-up, Luis Torrens, has been playing well. In 16 games, Torrens is batting .255 with a .733, including a big RBI double in the fifth inning in Friday’s wild walk-off win against the Cardinals at Citi Field.

Mendoza said, “we’ll see,” when asked if Jeff McNeil could be activated for the series. McNeil, who has not played this season due to a strained oblique muscle suffered during spring training, is hitting .273 (3-for-11) in four rehab games with Single-A Port St. Lucie, where he is getting some time in centerfield.
