Nokia Corporation NOK recently completed the acquisition of Infinera, a leading optical semiconductors and networking equipment maker. The acquisition has made Nokia one of the largest vendors in the optical networking market.

Finnish vendor Nokia has completed the €2.19 billion ($2.3bn) acquisition of networking firm Infinera. The San Jose, California-based company is now part of Nokia. Nokia’s plans to acquire Infinera surfaced last June, and Infinera said last week it was close to completion.

Nokia said on Friday that the acquisition will help it serve telecom operators, webscalers, and enterprises, unlocking new opportunities of the artificial intelligence (AI) era.

Nokia is expected to close its $2.3 billion acquisition of networking firm Infinera Corporation by the end of this month. Infinera confirmed in an announcement this week that it expects to close the sale on February 28. Finnish vendor Nokia first announced plans to acquire optical networking vendor Infinera in June.
