Microsoft announced on Friday that it will be retiring Skype in May and putting all of its video conferencing resources into Microsoft Teams.

Skype was an a pioneer in live video-calling that was bought by Microsoft in 2011, but was later overtaken by competing services.

Microsoft is pivoting to support Teams instead. Microsoft 365 head Jeff Teper encouraged Skype users to migrate their Skype contacts to Teams.

Skype will be retired on May 5th, and existing users will need to export their data or migrate to Teams.
