Israel carried out heavy air strikes against all types of Syrian military infrastructure since December, leaving the new rulers already battered from 14 years of civil war, with little capacity to face it in a war.

The Israeli army has reported conducting air raids on military facilities in southern Syria. Defence Minister Israel Katz emphasised that these actions aim to prevent these areas from being taken over by the new Syrian government or terrorist organisations.

The attacks in southern Syria are part of a new policy aimed at protecting what Israel calls its “security zone” in the region. Syria’s new government has condemned that policy.
