Hurricane Lowell was skirting western Hawaii, bringing damaging winds, heavy rain and punishing waves, the National Hurricane Center said.

Lowell never officially made landfall, but its widespread impacts made it one of Hawaii's most consequential tropical cyclones in decades.

Hurricane Lowell remained a powerful storm in the Pacific on Tuesday, but forecasters predicted it would gradually weaken as it continues to move past Hawaii. Even so, officials warned the hurricane could continue generating hazardous surf,

At 5 p.m. Tuesday, Tropical Storm Lowell was 310 miles north-northwest of Lihue and was moving to the north at 15 miles per hour.

Hurricane Lowell track has nudged east, raising chances for near hurricane-force gusts on Kauai, as well as heavy rain across the Hawaiian Islands.
