The elephant in the room throughout championship weekend is that Jordan’s team, along with one other, is currently suing NASCAR, calling out the sport’s governing body as “monopolistic bullies.” In fact, just days prior to the championship race, MJ appeared in court for the case’s first preliminary hearing.

The win marked Busch’s first victory in his debut campaign for the 23XI (pronounced “twenty-three eleven”) Racing team, co-owned by Jordan and NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin. It’s a fresh start for the veteran Busch, 43, that also landed him a partnership with Jordan Brand.

Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin have the team focused on innovation and diving into culture. In 2023, the team’s two cars made NASCAR’s version of the playoffs for the first time.

Should Reddick succeed in out-dueling Joey Logano, Ryan Blaney, and William Byron in Sunday’s 312-lap Championship Race for the NASCAR Cup Series at Phoenix, it would put both Denny Hamlin and Michael Jordan on the board as championship-winning team owners.

Located on nine acres near Interstate 77 off Statesville Road in Huntersville, Airspeed is the new headquarters for 23XIRacing, the racing team co-owned by Michael Jordan and Hamlin. Hamlin began detailing his ideas for this innovative facility on a sketch pad about three years ago.

The team is owned by former basketball player Michael Jordan, with current Nascar driver Denny Hamlin as a minority shareholder. It fields two cars at the moment, driven by Bubba Wallace and Kurt Busch, in a technical alliance with Joe Gibbs Racing.
