This photo of General Patton was taken during his one trip home after Germany surrendered. It was taken next to this cannon at the Patton Homestead, which still remains today. This 17th-century Spanish bronze cannon at the Patton Homestead in Hamilton, Massachusetts was brought back from the coast of Morocco during World War II by General George S. Patton. Salvaged during his North African campaign, the cannon was installed on the family’s back patio, where it still overlooks the Ipswich River.
