KCCI Investigates interviewed state Sen. Janet Petersen about the task force responsible for making recommendations to enhance Iowa's child welfare system, which has not convened in nearly two years. The task force was established as part of a $10 million settlement in 2023 between the state and the sisters of Sabrina Ray, who died in 2017 at age 16 after being starved by her adoptive parents. Task force members have expressed their frustrations over the minimal progress made since Ray's death.
