A CFA Strike Team has headed to South Australia, helping our SA Country Fire Service friends as they continue to fight a fire in the Deep Creek National Park. Leaving from Wendouree this morning, our crews are ready to assist, just as interstate and international personnel have helped us in recent weeks. We caught up with Daylesford Fire Brigade Captain and Strike Team Leader Glenn before they headed off. Stay safe team 🚒 | CFA Chief Officer

A big thank you to all SA communities that have supported our firefighters this year—whether by reporting fires, staying vigilant on high-risk days, slowing down when passing fire trucks, or offering thoughtful gifts. Your kindness and support mean the world to us. With the Bureau of Meteorology predicting heightened fire danger weather across the state for the Christmas period, we encourage all South Australians to take the risk very seriously. Even at this highly festive time of year, South Au

As we gear up for the 2024/25 Fire Danger Season, over 50 members of our State Aviation Operations team completed essential skills maintenance training at the Port Pirie Airbase in September. This year’s training included simulated responses to lightning fires in Wirrabara Range Conservation Park. Crews practiced helicopter missions for fire crew insertions, firebombing support, and rapid attack scenarios. Plus, Air Observers conducted simulated flood reconnaissance missions along Baroota Creek.

A first for South Australia 🚁🔥 During the recent Wilmington fire, CFS deployed a Blackhawk Helitak to drop long-term retardant on a steep section of fire edge that fixed-wing aircraft couldn’t safely reach due to the terrain. This was the first time in South Australia that a helicopter firebombing aircraft has been used to deliver retardant. Using a 3,400L bucket on a 100ft longline, the helicopter helped ground crews secure a 300m stretch of the southern fireline. This helped prevent potentia

South Australia is currently experiencing elevated fire danger across much of the state, with eleven out of fifteen Fire Ban Districts currently in Extreme. Even if your district is not in ban, you need to be prepared, stay informed, and avoid risky behaviours. CFS crews are currently responding to bushfires in the South East of the state caused by a lightning band that passed through overnight, and in the early hours of this morning. More than 600 lightning strikes were recorded in the area, le

🐨 👨🚒 While deployed in Victoria, CFS crews were on their way back from the fire ground when they came across a koala sitting in the middle of the road. The koala was in burnt territory but thankfully was unharmed. Two crew members, Steve and Carol – both experienced in handling wildlife – were able to safely rescue and release the koala into an unburnt area away, well away from the fire front. This kind of care and quick thinking is just one example of the many ways our volunteers support bo
